5 Murals in Philadelphia That Are Backdrop Perfection | Pt. 2

Philadelphia is home to more than 3,600 murals, and with initiatives like the Mural Arts Program, Philly has been rightfully named a “City of Murals”.  One of the most prevalent mural series in the city is “A Love Letter For You” created by Steve Powers, as it exhibits a myriad of  love, peace and happiness!   Erica and Nick fell in love with the energy of these murals, which is why they chose this setting for their lovely engagement photos!  Chrissy K Photography beautifully captured the love shared between this couple as well as the amazing mural landscapes that Philly has to offer.  These charming photographs present an endearing couple and equally captivating art!

Meet the Couple

How they met: “We have actually known each other for almost 15 years now! We met in middle school. We lived in the same small town, Jenkintown, with some of the same friends and were in some of the same classes together throughout high school. Nick stayed local for college, studying engineering at Drexel and I went to the University of Pittsburgh. After I graduated, I moved back home from college. Nick asked me to meet for a beer one afternoon, like old friends, and then we never left each others’ side from that day on!”

I love the way his mind works. He challenges me to view the world differently which is very grounding for me. I feel like I am constantly learning new things from him, things I wouldn’t otherwise care to know or research but when he talks about them, they are suddenly interesting.

How he proposed: “We were in Atlantic City for a Counting Crows concert. We went for a walk on the beach after the concert and he got down on one knee in the same spot where he first told me he loved me. It was perfect :)”

Why they chose this location: “Since Nick lived in West Philadelphia when we first started dating, we’d seen the murals around the neighborhoods. The love letters just have an incredible energy.  Some of the messages are heartbreakingly raw but others are amazingly hopeful and uplifting. I was inspired by the specific letters that capture the spirit we want to our marriage so that was ultimately the reason behind our engagement photo shoot with them. Also, these murals won’t be around forever, having to withstand weather and outdoor conditions so why not immortalize their beauty?”

What to do you love most about Philadelphia: “The spirit and the history of Philadelphia are what I love the most. There are old communities but also new ones and the history is always right there, integrated seamlessly with the new. Both cobblestone streets and condominium construction, you can find anything you want here. I have always been a sucker for a good story and Philadelphia has been the setting for so many of the important stories in America.”
