This gorgeous garden wedding at the Morris Arboretum features subtle details that are brimming with elegance and bursts of color! GraceD Photography tells the vibrant tale of Percy and Mike’s charming romance through these incredible photographs of their wedding. Wild Stems designed the most electrifying florals that added a chromatic presence to this not so sunny day. Despite the contrary to this seemingly gloomy day, the luminous love that is present between this couple serves to show that happiness is the ultimate light!
How they met: “We met through mutual friends in college. During our senior year we became really close, and then after we graduated, we realized how much we missed each other. Pretty soon after that we both moved to New York City, and everything just kind of happened naturally from there. “
From the Photographer | Grace Dickinson: “Percy & Mike were hands-down one of my favorite couples I’ve photographed to date. The two just couldn’t keep their hands off each other, which demonstrated how so clearly they were in love with one another. Rarely did I have to prompt them to go in for a kiss…because often I’d look up from my camera and see it was an impromptu action they were already carrying out.”
How he proposed: “He lured me out of the apartment and told me he wanted to go for a walk to catch the sunset. Then, he proposed in one of my favorite tulip gardens in New York City. The very next day we went on a trip to Amsterdam and Paris.”
From the Photographer | Grace Dickinson: “The Morris Arboretum where they chose to get married is a beautiful venue in itself. But on this particular spring day, the weather gods decided to roll in a robust thunderstorm. While it wasn’t ideal for afternoon portraits, it did create some rather gorgeous and dramatic shots just before the downpour hit.”
From the Photographer | Grace Dickinson: “Percy and Mike didn’t sweat the weather and instead remained laid-back, consistent with the vibes they held throughout the entire day. We snuck into the indoor fernery, a gorgeous greenhouse filled with ferns and other plants, just as it began to rain. Capturing them beneath the pitter patter of the raindrops on the windowscaped roof was surreal.”
“The weather cleared up just in time for their outdoor ceremony, bedecked in flowers that lit up the overcast sky. The two were radiating throughout and their chemistry really shined through in the photos.”
Best memory: “I would have to say our vows. It was an amazing moment to tell someone how much they mean to you in front of all your family and friends.”
Wedding planning experience: “I was finishing my medical residency and was working a lot. It was a little hectic to be honest, but we had amazing support from our parents and family which really helped a lot. Mike did a lot of the planning and organizing. Another reason I love him so much!”
Wedding planning advice: “If you can, take your honeymoon as soon as possible after the wedding. If you can’t, at least book a little trip that just the two of you can look forward to during the planning process. Looking back, it was so nice to be able to get away for an extended period of time with just the two of us to celebrate.”
