Erin and Rob had the sweetest wedding celebration at the Maas Building in the ever-so-hip Fishtown area. We love the slightly rustic yet urban vibe of the venue and the intimate feeling that Erin and Rob created for their special day. Cobblestones, garden, firepit? Definitely all the elements for an amazing wedding venue, right here in Philly! Erin DIY’ed all her wedding decor and details including the paper origami cranes, bunting banners, pinwheels, and signs which we absolutely adore. Erin and Rob’s love for Philly shines through in their wedding details (Philly Pretzels, anyone??) and the local vendors they chose to work with such as Miss Rachel’s Pantry, a vegan restaurant and catering company based in South Philly and the oh-so talented Peicha of Falls Flowers. The bride, Erin’s thoughts about her wedding day:
The inspiration for our wedding planning began when we fell in love with the venue, the Maas Building. We were drawn to so much of it. The exposed brick and beams, the tall blue folding doors that opened up to the patio and high walls surrounding the garden. We were taken back. We decided to have our ceremony there, behind the building. It was the perfect spot for the small, intimate wedding we envisioned. We love Philadelphia and wanted to keep that urban life in our wedding while adding our own romantic charm.
The decorating came together in many small projects. The paper cranes. I read that in Japanese culture it is a tradition to fold 1,000 origami cranes, and when complete, you will be granted 1,000 years of good luck in your marriage. Challenge accepted. But what we really learned is that folding the cranes took time, patience, and understanding. Some of the same important qualities it takes for a marriage to thrive.
The bunting banners and pinwheels were so much fun to make. I enjoyed going to the craft store and sorting through the mint, peach, blush, and gold fabrics & papers that we chose as the color palette for our wedding. I loved mixing and matching the textures and patterns. We were so thankful to have great friends and family to help us hang them all the day before the wedding!
I remember standing underneath the chuppah during the ceremony that Rob had built for us. Holding hands, beaming with excitement. Neither of us could stop smiling during our vows. We were there, at last. We are going to have that moment forever. It was incredible.
The rest of the evening was great music, great food, and all the love from friends and family we could ask for. The laughs, the dancing, the special moments. We took it all in. What a perfect day it was.
