More about Kimberly and Thomas’s “Love Story” below

How they met: “We met after college through our Post-Doctoral training program. Little did we know we had competed for the same 2 positions, and had scored both our #1 options. Lucky our top choices were different!”

How he proposed: “It was a hot day in May and he decided to take me and our dog out for a long overdue picnic in Logan Square. We had a picnic basket that hadn’t been used ever, and after making a trip to Whole Foods to pick up some of our favorite snacks, I knew something was up when we sat down to eat and he wasn’t hungry.”

Wedding planning experience: “It was incredible! Our wedding was very much DIY, and we were aiming to have a garden elegance theme which meant working with 11 different vendors at the end of the day! All who were great! We had heard all of the horror stories and rumors from friends but going into it we made a pact to focus on what WE wanted and did every step of planning together from the tablecloths to music and food. It was a wonderful experience going through planning the wedding truly together and making it our own. I only had his expectations and disagreements to manage, no one else’s =).”

Favorite memory: “My favorite moment was meeting him at the end of the aisle during our ceremony. The look on his face was so loving, and just set all my nerves at ease in front of everyone. Being in the moment together, was absolutely an incredible feeling.”

Wedding planning advice: “The best thing you can do is plan together for the both of you. It’s easier said than done, but set those expectations with family members up front. You will want to look back and talk about how every detail you both planned worked out better than you could have imagined. Remember, your wedding day will be your first day as husband and wife and what better way than to celebrate all the hard work and time you put into throwing the best celebration (party) of your lives!”
