Earlier this year we hosted the #LovePHL2016 Giveaway with Lauren Schwarz Photography, Occasions by Diana, and Darling + Pearl! Jordan and Jon were our lucky winners who received a free engagement session, including hair + makeup for the lovely bride-to-be. This delightful couple created their love story in this enchanting city, and the dazzling photos from their shoot illustrate a lovely day in Philadelphia.
How did it feel to win the #LovePHL2016 Giveaway?
It was really a great feeling. I found out that I had won pretty soon after Jon and I got engaged, so it was a really exciting way to start out the wedding planning and experience. The experience has been great so far. I loved working with Diana and Lauren. Going to Diana’s studio and getting all dolled up was so fun, as was getting to know her. She’s so talented! The shoot with Lauren was also awesome. She made it so fun and easy for both Jon and I. The pictures turned out so beautifully – we were both very pleased, and I am looking forward to designing the save the dates!
From Occasions By Diana | Diana DuHaime: “Getting Jordan ready for her engagement shoot was so much fun. When she arrived we talked about what look she was hoping to achieve – head to toe – for her photo session. She showed me her cute white dress and we got to it! For Jordan’s look we kept it glowy, clean and refined. She wanted more of an effortless style for this occasion, so that we can bump up the glamour for her big day next year. I let her natural skin texture show off with a sheer foundation since she already had such a gorgeous summer glow. I lightly contoured and highlighted, and we kept her eyes simple with a winged liner and lashes to give them definition but not look over done. For her lips we chose a deeper summer pink to play off the sunset as well as keep the photos timeless. I added some light volume and pretty waves in her hair, and her whole look was perfectly fitting.
Jordan and John were so much fun to hang out with! I love getting my clients dolled up for special events outside their weddings, it’s always relaxing and a great way to spend time together and get to know one another better! I’m so excited to be Jordan’s hair and makeup artist next fall for her special day!”
How They Met:
“Jon and I met in our first few weeks of law school. I saw him on the first day and for some reason just could not stop looking at him. He has incredible eyes and a pretty awesome beard, so that was probably part of it, but I was just drawn to him. In our contracts class, he sat directly across the room from me and we used to just make eye contact a lot. By the end of September we found ourselves at an event together and he came up to talk to me, and we have been together ever since!”
From the Bride-to-be: “Jon is incredible – he is one of the smartest and funniest people I have ever met. No matter the situation, he is there for me and does everything he can to make me happy. He can always make me laugh. He is honest and loyal, and I love that about him. I know I can count on him always. It is amazing to know that I get to spend the rest of my life with someone like that.”
The Proposal:
“Jon proposed the day after our last day of our fall semester finals in 2015. We were both drained because we had really busy semesters, so we were just sitting on the couch watching Home Alone (we love Christmas). Towards the end of the movie, Jon suggested we go out to get dessert. I was already in my pajamas and had taken off my makeup, so my first response was eh no. He was persistent though, and I finally agreed. He was being a little bit suspicious about me dressing up and looking nice, so I started thinking that he might be proposing, but decided, since I had thought he was proposing a few other times that I was just reading too far into it. But once I got ready, I went out to the living room where all the Christmas lights were on and the tree was lit up. We were sitting together before we left and he looked at me and told me how much he loved me, then he asked me to marry him. It was surreal, but easily the best night of my life.”
Engagement Session Inspiration:
“Jon and I wanted to do a shoot that was very natural and summery, so we tried to keep it simple. Because Jon and I knew we were moving to Chicago in August, we wanted our engagement photos to be very Philly. So Lauren (Lauren Schwarz Photography), Jon and I decided on the Art Museum so we could get some pictures with the skyline, as well as boathouse row, the museum, and the river.”
Wedding Planning Experience (thus far):
“Jon and I were not able to do any wedding planning over spring semester, or most of the summer (we had to take the bar exam), so it JUST started last week. So far it has been fun, just figuring out everything that needs to be done. I imagine it will get more stressful, but for now, it is fun to think about all the great things we have ahead of us.”
