When couples grace our blog twice, we know that it’s a match made to last. After being introduced to this lovely couple as they celebrated their engagement, we just couldn’t wait to see them again for their wedding day! Emily and Jack have us totally smitten with their elegant wedding at The Washington at Historic Yellow Springs. This gorgeous venue was the perfect setting for this history buff couple, and of course the outdoor grounds are absolute perfection. Du Soleil Photographie gracefully captured every lovable moment and every element that made this wedding complete. From the delicate details to the never-ending smiles on this day, I think it’s safe to say this wedding was everything E + J dreamt of!
How They Met:
“We met in high school! We had mutual friends and even took senior prom pictures in the same group, but we didn’t discover the romantic chemistry between us until about six years later. We had both recently finished college and met for lunch to catch up. The rest, as they say, is history.”
The Proposal:
“Jack proposed at sunset amidst the red rocks in Sedona, Arizona. The night before, the two had flown in to Las Vegas to set off on a five-day trip across the West Coast. The afternoon of May 18, 2015 was spent on a scenic road trip to Grand Canyon National Park, eventually making their way to beautiful Sedona. When Jack got down on one knee, Emily truly was not expecting it and could hardly form full sentences. She thought Jack was proposing out of pure spontaneity, maybe had just bought the ring the week prior. But he later told her he’d been patiently waiting to propose for seven months.”
Wedding Planning Experience:
“Not your typical experience! I was not a stressed out, flustered, overwhelmed bride and I think that surprised everyone. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the year-long planning process, and even had family and friends hinting that I’ve found my new calling in life. I relied a lot on The Knot, WeddingWire, Minted, Etsy, Pinterest and even watching Say Yes to the Dress (yes, really). We feel so fortunate that we had 12-13 months to plan our wedding day, because we really were able to take thoughtful time, without too much time to overthink things.”
Best Memory:
“Our personal wedding vows during our ceremony. We poured our hearts out a little bit, but we also made each other laugh.”
Wedding Inspiration:
“Our shared hometown has a lot of history, so we’ve both grown up with an appreciation for the charm of historic sites and buildings. We were drawn to The Washington at Historic Yellow Springs in Chester Springs, PA for both it’s convenient location, but also the Revolutionary War ruins on site and the beautiful land, fountain and gardens. We decided to tie in touches of the bucolic countryside and stuck to neutral palettes for our wedding. The yellow/gold colors of our venue’s exterior even served as a theme for our wedding invitations and our Photo Booth.”
“My favorite piece of rustic decor from our wedding day was a DIY piece that I created with help from my father and our florist. I was inspired to use a pair of salvaged shutters as place card holders for our guests. We repainted them a light shade a gray and secured them with braces so they would stand up straight on their own. On the wedding day, our florist tucked in bunches of flowers, and also tucked in the 40 to 50 place cards for our guests to find their table.”
Wedding Planning Advice:
“As many couples will tell you, having a day-off point person is a tremendous help. We were very lucky to have two individuals (one from our caterer, and one from our venue) who helped make our day run so smoothly. I would also remind the couple that while at time it may feel like you have to make all these people happy, like parents or siblings or members of the bridal party, at the end of the day it’s your one and only most special day. You have to remind yourselves that this is your wedding.”
