How They Met:

“David and I met at work at an Irish Pub and Restaurant in Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA. He was a bartender in the basement level cocktail bar, and I was two floors up waitressing. We would talk in movie quotes and I found myself spending more and more time at his bar after my shift ended until we ended up going out together one night after work. The night ended with us sneaking out onto an ice skating rink in our sneakers until we got kicked out, and we’ve been breaking the rules together ever since.”

The Proposal:

“David proposed on April 1st, 2015 under cherry blossoms in Tokyo, Japan. There’s a section of moat around the old Edo Castle ruins where they rent row boats, and it’s lined with cherry trees that were in full bloom. It was gorgeous! After making sure it wasn’t the cruelest April Fools joke of all time, I almost tipped over the row boat I was so excited and of course I said yes!”

Best Memory:

“Well the number one moment for me was seeing Dave’s reaction when I came down the aisle. We didn’t do a first look. It was really important to me that the first look actually be down the aisle so that we could have that really special moment be part of the ceremony. I was a nervous wreck a few moments before I walked in, and it all melted away when I saw him. A close second was my sisters’ Maid of Honor speech. They ended it with a mashup of popular songs that they used to tell our love story with a guest appearance from my older brother who worked in an original rap. Everyone was talking about it for weeks to come and it was so funny and special. I think one day Dave’s brothers will forgive them for having to follow it up with their speech…haha.”

Wedding Planning Experience:

“Like most women, I’ve been planning my wedding since I was a little girl and had a full game plan on Pinterest well before we were even engaged. I had a literary/book themed wedding all planned before I realized my dream venue was a little more expensive than what we had in mind. We looked at a bunch of venues in Philadelphia (where we knew we wanted to get married since our family is from all over and all of our best friends are in Philly so it was the perfect middle ground) and when we came across Stotesbury Mansion it was just perfect. I love all things vintage, but the art deco details in this place are amazing and we immediately fell in the love with the idea of a 1920’s/Gatsby vibe for the wedding and went from there.”

Wedding Inspiration:

“The Art Deco/1920’s vibe we went for really came naturally after we picked the venue. Stotesbury Mansion was the perfect venue for a house party style reception and our pallet of golds, black, and ivory came from the decor that was already there. We really let the venue inspire us and drew on that era that we both really appreciate.”

Wedding Planning Advice:

“Start planning early/have a long engagement. We had about a year and a half and it worked out pretty perfectly as far as having plenty of time to save the money we needed and having lots of time to find vendors and plan. Also delegate! It’s easy to become bridezilla and need to do everything yourself so that it’s perfect. But you’ll save yourself a lot of stress if you put a few people you trust in charge of some of the larger details like flowers or transportation or hotel blocks and just have them check in with you. Assign duties to your wedding party and family for the big day so that you don’t have to worry about anything except showing up and looking your best. There will be enough going on day of, you want to have as little to worry about as possible so that you have time to take it all in and enjoy yourselves.”

Wedding Vendor Experience:
“My experience was great! I did a lot of research on all of my vendors checking pricing and online reviews. I was in constant communication with almost all of them and met them in person before signing contracts to make absolutely sure they were a good fit for us. I found them online, at bridal expos, and through my venue. We lucked out actually because our venue had an amazing exclusive caterer, Festivities Events, and they were our wedding planner and coordinator for the venue and catering. Also, the catering included the wedding cake in the price and they gave us a list of  bakeries to choose from. Made life a lot easier to have a one stop shop for about half of the vendors really. Beautiful Brides Philly were really fantastic and such a fun presence day of. It was like having three more friends getting ready with us and I felt absolutely beautiful on my big day.”
